Metro, BMTC start operations late in the evening

Last Updated 13 September 2016, 20:07 IST

The transport services, which were suspended since Monday afternoon, resumed operations on Tuesday evening as the situation was largely peaceful.

While BMTC and Metro services resumed, KSRTC began plying buses to Mandya and Mysuru from the satellite bus stand. However, services to Tamil Nadu were completely suspended.

There were not many takers for the BMTC and Metro services as most of Bengaluru’s residents remained indoors. Skeletal bus services started in East and North Bengaluru and central business district areas.

BMTC had also made special arrangements for airport-bound passengers. By the evening, bus services resumed in full swing.  A majority of autorickshaws, Ola, Uber and other cab aggregators remained off the roads for the whole day. Many passengers could not find a vehicle in the morning, compelling them to walk with their backpacks and luggage. On the other side, South Western Railway (SWR) started a special train from the city to Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram in view of Onam festival.

On being advised by the police, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) commenced operations from 7.15 pm on Tuesday on
both lines.
