Those who love the combination of good food and great beer would not mind travelling to Gurgaon Sector 30, where Bottles & Barrels is situated. Though the area is yet to find its feet, it can be said that it is going to be the next big hub for foodies after Sector 29 which is bustling with eateries and restaurants, as many restaurants and eateries have already started construction for their next outlet.

Launched a couple of months ago, Bottle & Barrels brings in Gurgaon’s first horizontal brewer (considered best for brewing process) that specialises in different flavours of handcrafted beer. But not to forget, the food here is also something that cannot be neglected.

Metrolife recently visited the place over lunch. As one enters, a strong whiff of freshly-brewed beer is sure to hit you. And as you move ahead, paintings and pictures hung on the wall on your right takes you to the time when beer culture started in Germany. On the left is the huge bar and the open brewery.

The restaurant has a huge seating area divided into three parts. The right side is dedicated to sports. Walls painted in bright red, cycle, cricket bat and other sports equipments, used in the interiors, give it a sports bar look.

There’s also a pool table where patrons can play and enjoy their time. The front side is given the look of a private dining room (PDR) which is glorified with king-size and cosy couches. Next is the opulent terrace that consists of six gazebos, which has equally distributed low and level seating. There is also a DJ console where their resident DJ spins retro rock, disco hits, foot tapping house and Bollywood numbers. They also organise live music performances thrice a week.

The menu at Bottle & Barrels offers cuisines from around the world like oriental, continental and Italian, and Indian. For beer, there are four choices — Jaggery Ale, Wheat Beer, Belgian Wheat Beer and American Bitter Ale.

As we settled down, all the four beers were served to us in shot glasses for tasting. While the American Bitter Ale is for those who love their beer bitter, Jaggery Ale, Belgian Wheat Beer and Wheat Beer are smooth on your taste buds. We chose to go with Jaggery Ale.

The chef curated a special menu for us, comprising ‘Iranian Chelo Kebab’, ‘Thai Cheese Cigar Rolls’, ‘Greek Veggie Pizza’ ‘Cheese Baby Potatoes’, and ‘Beer Batter Fish Finger’ for starters. Out of all, our favourite was the fish fingers and the potato dish. While the other dishes can also be given a try, but the latter two are a must. Stuffed with cheese and veggies, the baby potatoes work as a perfect appetiser. Whereas, the fish, marinated in a batter prepared with beer, just melts in your mouth.

Moving ahead to the main course, we tried their Indian offering — ‘Dal BnB’ and ‘Chicken Lababdar’, served with garlic naan.  The black lentils were their version of ‘Dal Makhani’ fused with ‘Dal Tadka’. Worth a try! The chicken also came as a good surprise. With mild spices and juicy big chicken pieces, the dish is a delight for those who love Punjabi food.

Address: 2nd Floor, Star Tower, Exit 8, NH-8, Sector 30, Gurgaon. Timing: 12 noon to 12 midnight. Meal for two: Rs 2,200, plus taxes.
