Protests continue

Protests related to the Cauvery dispute gained momentum in Cauvery basin districts of Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar, since Tuesday evening after the Supreme Court directed the state to release of 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu.

 

In view of the Cauvery row, the district administration has declared a holiday for high schoolsand colleges in Mandya, Pandavapura, Srirangapatna and Maddur taluks on Thursday as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, the Cauvery Raitha Hitharakshana Samithi held a meeting, and unanimously decided that all legislators and MPs of the Cauvery basin districts should be ready for any sacrifice. 

The Samithi has called for a bandh of all government offices in the district on Thursday. The Samithi, headed by former MP G Madegowda, said, the government should take a firm decision and not release water to Tamil Nadu. It has also sought compensation for crop loss.
