100-year-old 'raped'

A 100-year-old woman was murdered after reportedly being raped in the fields near her house in Daun Kalan village in Patiala district of Punjab. While the police have registered a case of murder against unknown suspects, charges of sexual assault or rape will be added if established prima-facie after investigation and postmortem, the police said on Tuesday.

The grandson of the deceased charged that his grandmother was raped before being murdered. The old woman was sleeping outside the house when the incident took place. Her body was found half-naked with blood all over the cot. Her clothes were found in the nearby fields.

The attackers are suspected to be drug addicts since no property dispute has come to light so far. The attackers took her to the fields and “raped” her before hitting her with a wooden object. They later dragged the body back to the cot, it is said.
