Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali’s scheduled show in the city on Friday has been cancelled following objections raised by right-wing outfits Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal.

Forum Mall, the organiser of the event along with Radio Mirchi, confirmed that Ali’s show has been cancelled. In a letter to the Adugodi police on Wednesday, the organisers stated that the sale of tickets for the show has been taken off BookMyShow, an aggregator service for the entertainment industry.

The two pro-Hindu organisations had on Monday written to the police seeking cancellation of the event, terming it anti-national in the light of the militant attack on an army camp in Uri on September 18.

“When India is preparing to declare Pakistan a terrorist nation, having a performance in a mall by a Pakistani singer is an insult to patriots, Indian soldiers and their families,” the letter stated.
