Last Updated 06 October 2016, 20:40 IST

The state government on Thursday submitted to the High Court that it has notified the draft rules to make an amendment in the Karnataka Educational Institutions (Regulation of certain fees and Donations) Rules, 1999.

It has also submitted that an insertion is also made to the Karnataka Education Institutions (Classification, Regulation and Prescription of curricula etc) Rules, 1995.

The government has stated that a period of 30 days will be given for public opinion after which rules will be notified. A division bench comprising Justice Jayant Patel and Justice Aravind Kumar adjourned the hearing until November 10.

Sri Gururaghavendra Education Society and others have filed a batch of petitions challenging various issues including the Constitutional validity of some of the provisions of Karnataka Education Act, 1983.

These petitions have been sent back from the Supreme Court to be re-examined in light of the judgement passed in the TMA Pai Education versus Karnataka state case. The petitioners have also sought directions to bring ICSE and CBSE schools under the Karnataka Education Act. A few petitioners have challenged the fee structure prescribed by the state government contending that it is arbitrary.

A few parents also have filed a petition saying private schools are charging more than government prescribed fees.
