World Dance Day

Shrishti Center of Performing Arts and Institute of Dance Therapy is organising ‘Shrishti World Festival of Dance Drama Music and Yoga’ till May 7 at Ravindra Kalakshetra.

   The nine-day festival will see around 225 dancers, musicians and back stage workers coming together from different parts of the country like Tamil Nadu, Orissa, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Karnataka and so on to present varied art forms like bharathanatyam, mohiniyattam, kuchipudi, kathak, dance dramas, percussion concerts and more.

The mega events of the festival include mohiniyattam dance demonstration by Kanak Rele, a dance recital by her students and ‘Mahan Buddha’, a one man show by Dr A V Satyanarayana on April 30. There will be a kathak performance by Dr Mayarao and Srinivasa Kalyana dance drama by Shubha Dhananjay and group on May 2 as well as a presentation of the folk dances of Tamil Nadu on May 5,6 and 7.

This year the International Dance Council is joining forces with the World Food Program to create ‘Dance to Zero’, a project promoting healthy eating through dance and education. Correlating with this message, Shrishti is also organising programmes on music, theatre, yoga and Naturopathy to educate children about the importance of healthy practices through art and living style to provide vocational opportunities and to advocate achieving zero hunger. There will be a national conference of Ayurveda, Naturopathy yoga and dance yoga on May 6 and 7.
