In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recorded the statements of Rakesh Maria, who as Mumbai Police chief led the probe into the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, and two other IPS officers.

Besides Maria, who is currently the Director General, Home Guards and Commandant General, Civil Defence, the two others are Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Deven Bharti and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IX) Satya Narayan Chowdhury.

The CBI has not commented so far on the development of questioning the three police officers who were part of the probe team.

As far as Chowdhary is concerned, he was the zonal DCP. The murder case was registered at the Khar police station.

During the investigation, Maria was promoted to the rank of Director General of Police and transferred by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio.

Later, he handed over the case to the CBI.
