Kodava Sahitya Academy programmes opening on June 4

Three more members nominated to Academy

Informing this to media persons here on Monday, Academy President Rani Machaiah said the event would be inaugurated by the Kannada and Culture Department Secretary B R Jayaramaraje Urs at 10 am, while Zilla Panchayat former president Deerghakeshi Shivanna, MLA M P Appachuranjan, Akhila Kodava Samaja President Matanda C Monnappa, Janapada Academy former president Kalegowda Nagavara and folk expert Sirigandha Srinivasmurthy would take part as guests.

Action plan has been prepared for the programmes in 2009-10 by using Rs 23 lakh that has remained unspent till now and Rs 28.5 lakh, the grant for the present year. No other programmes will be taken up violating the regulations. Priority will be on transparency, she said.

Audit report for the year 2004-05 has been published, and objection has been submitted for Rs 19.65 lakh. The decision has been taken in the last general meeting to recover the pending Rs 1.98 lakh, informed member Sara Changappa.

Auditing for the year 2005-06 has been completed but the report is yet to come. Auditing for the year 2006-07 and 2007-08 is yet to be done. The new administrative board has responded positively to the probe to be done against the previous misappropriations in the academy, Changappa added.

Three nominated

Including the president, the Academy had 11 members, but it could have had three more. In this backdrop, Telapanda Kavan Kariappa from Somwarpet taluk, Madeyanda Sabitha Kariappa from Madikeri taluk and Binanda Poonacha from Virajpet tauk were nominated for the academy, Changappa said.

It has been proposed to give awards to achievers in different fields comprising Rs 5000 cash each this year. Besides, in collaboration with other organisations, the academy will conduct ‘Oor Namme’ programmes in villagers.

Seminars in three taluks, two training camps in a year, three programmes in collaboration with universities, publishing books regarding the folk arts of the district are in the academy’s agenda, the president informed.

The academy will organise convention of young writers. It will look after the expenditure of the art troupes to be sent outside the state. Kodava mela in three taluks, exhibitions, sahityotsava, financial assistance to the cultural studies, to the artistes, etc will be arranged by the academy, she said.

Academy members Bacharaniyanda Ranu Annappa, Maniyanda Vital Belliappa and Palangappa were present at the press meet.
