Narasamma (63) sustained grievous injuries as a speeding car knocked her down while she was crossing the road. She was shifted to Bangalore for treatment. The accident triggered protest with the people of Honnenahalli alleging that the accidents have increased due to removal of the road humps. They said that people could not cross the road as vehicles ply at high speed on the National Highway.

Even the traffic signal which was installed earlier has been removed. Absence of service road is further endangering the lives of pedestrians. A similar accident occurred on Friday also. The officers concerned and the contractor executing the work have thrown rules to wind, they alleged.

PSIs Shivaprasad and Munireddy succeeded in pacifying the agitated villagers. The protest was withdrawn following an assurance to lay road humps on the stretch. Vehicles had lined up for over two kilometres owing to the protest.
