CBI court to pass order in Aircel-Maxis case

A special CBI court is likely to pass its order on the framing of charges against former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanithi and other accused in the Aircel-Maxis deal case on November 30.

It has also fixed November 30 as the date for passing orders on the bail petitions of the Maran brothers and other accused in the case.

This came after arguments of the prosecution and defence on the point of framing of charges concluded on November 16.

“Arguments on point of charge and bail for both parties are complete. Both parties prayed that they wish to file written submissions also. They are at liberty to file the same within seven days. Put up the matter for order on charge and bail on November 30,” the Special CBI Judge O P Saini said.

Maran brothers and other accused in the case have denied all the charges against them while arguing in their defence in the court.  

In its chargsheet, however, the CBI has accused Dayanidhi of forcing Chennai-based telecom promoter C Sivasankaran to sell the stake in Aircel to Malaysia-based Maxis Group, owned by Krishnan, under a criminal conspiracy in 2006.
