Rapid fire questions, buzzers, pounces and participants waiting with bated breath for the results...  no, this is not a scene out of a reality television show, but that of the electrifying inter-school quiz competition hosted by DH at the Bal Bhavan auditorium in Cubbon Park on Wednesday.

The city’s finest young minds came together to showcase their intelligence and knowledge at the quiz competition.

Which town did Tipu Sultan lose to the British which is 35 km away from Bengaluru and also means ‘new village’ (Hosur)? A few centuries ago, the shepherds of  Southeast England would play a sport with their crooked staff that is today a popular game across the world. Which is this sport? (Cricket) - were some of the questions that would get you to whack your brains, but not these quizzards who answered them with utmost ease.

From battling questions on history to cracking scientific inventions, the curious minds were raring to go. The audience reverberated with cheer and applause as they batted questions upon question with a breeze.

The qualifying  and final rounds for the juniors required the students to identify pictures and derive the connections  between them.  While the participants gave their best shot, it was the audience who took the cake by answering all of them correctly.

The next round required the teams to identify the diagrams of models which turned into major inventions that changed the course of history. From identifying the diagram of a safety pin to the location of the new colossus (written  under the Statue of Liberty), the teams left the audience spellbound with their intelligence.

The teams did not miss a chance to score their points leading the quizmaster to ask a tie-breaker to decide the winning teams.

As part of the final round, the seniors were required to identify google doodles and what they represented. From a tribute to the inventor of microscope, a doodle on cure for diabetes and the northern lights, the teams left no stone unturned to prove their mettle.

A question on the names of two South American countries decided the winning teams. “It was an incredible experience. Reading newspapers and a know-how of current affairs helped me prepare for the competition,” said Hemant S from BGS World School.

“The teams have been incredible as always. It is wonderful to see the curiosity and knowledge that these young minds have at this age,” said Arul Mani, the quizmaster who has been hosting quizzes since 1985.
