Your winter look needs a little colour

VIVID AND VIVACIOUS
Last Updated 09 December 2016, 18:48 IST

Every winter, we step out wearing our best outfits only to match the grey skies and the fog that envelopes the city. Be it a stylish overcoat or a basic jumper, the blacks and greys are the key winter colours of any wardrobe. Are you also as tired of the monochromes as we are? Do we need to abandon colours completely when the winter arrives?

Well, not really. We promise, great style — even in the depths of winter — is very possible. Here, a few of tips and tricks to infuse vivid colours into your attire this season.
You can rock the monochromatic look by simply injecting some pop colours this winter in the form of cool make-up and accessories to look vibrant as ever.

Bring life to that boring conference with an orange scarf teamed with a black coat. A dinner with family would be incomplete if you don’t wear those blue trainers. For that romantic coffee date, let your red matte lips do the talking. For a flirty night-out with friends, a blue winged eyeliner should be the hero of the day.

Introduce some springy colours to your vanity and beat the winter blues the hipster way. Go on, give a shout out to cool yellows and chic pinks and recharge your look by mixing and matching your boring monochrome outfits with fun bright shades. With this, our blacks and greys take a back seat this winter and we warm up to bright hues in altogether a different light.

Let your nails talk

Lay your hands on fun, bright, catchy nail colours this season. Add a little bit of yellow, turquoise blue, hot pink or mint green to your make-up bag and look colourful as ever. You can either apply a single colour on all nails or even mix and match to give them a funky touch. To kill the monotony, give vent to your inner artist and try some creative, patterns and designs on your nails to contrast with your black cardigan.

Lips don’t lie

Not everyone is as bold as Aishwarya Rai to pull off a mauve lipstick on the Cannes red carpet. However, this winter, break the stereotype and try hues you’ve never dared to play around with before. Match your white and grey attire with bright citrusy hues like orange, coral or electric pink or you can even try a dab of dark chocolate or golden lipstick for a chic look. Don’t forget to exfoliate your lips before applying lipstick in winter, as dull and chapped lips ruin the effect the shades create.

Flirty eyes

Recharge your look by adding a little bit of rainbow on those pretty lashes and eyelids. Opt for lively shades and stay away from golden and brown eye make-up this winter. Freshen up your otherwise dull attire by laying hands on liners and mascaras available in varied shades. Swipe a lilac or blue eyeliner, and a little bit of green mascara and flaunt your bold, dramatic eye make-up this winter.

Bag it

Whatever your style motto, a bright funky bag can never look out of place. People mostly stick to their grey, black and brown bags to match their cardigans and coats in winter and look boring from head to toe. This season, pick up totes and pocketbooks in neon shades to accentuate your outfit and give out hip vibes like never before.

Accessories that add charm

Usher in style this winter by laying hands on eclectic pieces in classy hues. For a subtle office look, experiment with chains necklace with a turquoise or coral bauble. You can look completely jazzy by adorning danglers and winged earrings in colours that’ll compliment your otherwise dull attire.

Best foot forward

Forward march in this season’s fresh palette for a trendy look. Go shopping and pick up cool ink blue, mustard or mauve trainers and look vibrant. Most people play safe by not going beyond black or brown boots however this winter break this label by going funky. Be it a pair of floral shoes or a pair of lacy blue boots, add a spring to your step this winter.
