Of the total candidates, 6,419 are repeaters while 1,756 are private candidates. There are 14 government colleges and nine private colleges in the five taluks of Kolar-Chikkaballapur district.

The number of candidates in each taluk are as follows: Kolar - 5,412; Srinivaspur - 2,842; Mulbagal - 2,670; Malur - 2,915; Bangarpet - 1,806 and KGF Urban - 4,288.

Vigilance squad

Vigilance squads, each comprising two to four members as per the students’ ratio, are formed to check malpractices during the examinations.  Besides, the mobile squads will also visit the exam centres across the district.

The vigilance teams led by the deputy commissioner, zilla panchayat chief executive officer and the deputy director of Pre-University Department (DDPU) have also been formed, DDPU Vijayavarma told Deccan Herald.

The deputy director expressed hope that the district, which had not received good results in the recent years, may receive more than 60 per cent results this year. The results in the past two years were disappointing. In 2007-08 the district was in 17th position while it slipped to 22nd position in the next academic year.

Prohibitory orders

Prohibitory orders have been clamped in the 200 metres radius of the exam centres across the district. Gathering in groups or any other activities disturbing the peace near the exam centres have also been banned, said officials.

The employees in the exam centres were busy with preparations for the exams on Wednesday and the DDPU was also busy inspecting the
preparations.
