Grant-in-aid to continue for education institutions

The CM announced this in his reply to 2010-11 budget discussion in the Legislative Assembly.  Of around 500 institutions, which include primary schools, high schools and pre-university colleges, nearly 50 per cent have been getting grant-in-aid. The Government had stopped the process of considering the rest of the institutions for grant-in-aid in October 2009, after it introduced economy measures following floods in north Karnataka. Now the process will resume from April 1, 2010.

According to senior officer of Education Department 85 high schools, around 200 primary schools and a few pre-university colleges would get grant-in-aid, provided they meet the standards set by the Government. Besides, the CM announced setting up a separate examination board under the Pre-University Education Department.

The CM also said the Kittur Rani Channamma Post Graduate Centre in Belgaum will be declared as a new University. dhns: Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, on Thursday said the Government will relax the economy measure to continue the process of giving grant-in-aid for private education institutions established between 1987 and 1995.
