Congress making issue out of nothing, says district BJP president

Last Updated 04 January 2017, 20:27 IST

The Congress has been unnecessarily making a big issue out of MP Nalin Kumar’s statement, only to hide the failure of the administration in nabbing the accused of crime incidents including the assaults on Hindu activists, said district BJP president Sanjeev Mathandur.

Addressing reporters here on Wednesday, he said the Congress party has been continuously targeting the MP and the BJP for the statement delivered by him during a protest recently, even though he did not mean to set fire to the district itself. He had referred to the fire of protest, which the administration will face if the accused of Kartik Raj murder case is not arrested within ten days. Moreover, the MP has apologised for his remark.

Remarking that the Police department is not allowed to carry out the investigation on the case in an unbiased manner, Mathandur said that even after three months of Raj’s death, the progress of the investigation by the police is not known even to his parents.

But the statement has been taken in the wrong spirit by the leaders of Congress, who do not speak about the failure in nabbing the accused in many criminal cases pertaining to the attacks and murders of Hindu activists and also the illegal transportation of cattle in Ullal. He said that the reactions by the Congress on MP’s statement are part of their hidden agenda of political vote bank.

Stating that even though illicit drug business is being carried out unabated in Mangaluru Constituency, neither the MLA of the constituency nor the Congress leaders speak about the same.

“The BJP urges both the state and the Union governments to initiate a CBI probe into the unsolved cases on the murders of Hindu activists in Mangaluru Constituency,” Mathandur said.

Responding to a query, he said that the BJP condemns the murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga. “We had met his family and condoled Baliga’s family members earlier,” he said.

On B S Yeddyurappa batting for Yettinahole project, Matandur said that Yeddyurappa had stated that the people of Dakshina Kannada were kept behind the blinds before drafting the project and urged the government to tell the truth. However, the district BJP will convince him about the situation of the district as to why the project is being opposed. There is no change in the stand of district BJP on Yettinahole.

Former MLA Yogish Bhat, leaders Umanath Kotian and Brijesh Chowta were present among others.
