KG Halli: molester also planned to rob woman

The man, who groped and molested a 25-year-old woman at Govindapura Circle near Arabic College early on Friday morning, also intended to rob her, police investigation has found.

The burqa-wearing woman was walking to the bus stop on her way to work when the incident happened. He had closely followed her and pounced on her after finding no one was around, she said in a formal statement to police on Saturday.

When she started to scream, he tried to silence her by overpowering her. In the melee, both of them fell down. Just then, stray dogs started barking and the woman screamed again. The man got terrified and ran away, she told investigators. The victim clarified that the man didn’t bite her on the tongue but she herself bit it out of panic. Further, she sustained injuries when she fell to the ground.

For now, police have opened a case under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage the modesty of woman) and are hunting for the suspect. They will invoke the section of attempt to robbery once the suspect is arrested and interrogated and if found culpable, a senior police officer said.
