A consumer court in the city has fined Snapdeal, an e-commerce company, for delivering a wrong product and not refunding the amount to the customer.

The consumer court has passed an order directing Snapdeal to pay Rs 3,000 towards mental agony and hardship caused to the customer. Syeda Sharmeen Afza, a resident of Fraser Town, had placed an order for chocolate brown-coloured queen size bed, paying an amount of Rs 10,669.  But a white-coloured  bed of low quality was delivered.

As Syeda was not happy with the product, she placed a request for refund. Despite making several requests and sending notices, there was no response from the company.

Complaint filed

Syeda then approached the consumer court seeking compensation of Rs 50,000 for the mental agony she faced after making the online purchase.

Snapdeal failed to appear before the court. After hearing the matter, M Yashodamma, member of the consumer disputes redressal commission, passed an order on December 12, 2016, directing legal cell of Snapdeal in Gurugram, Jasper Infotech Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru, and Spacewood Furniture Pvt Ltd, Maharashtra, to deliver the bed ordered by the complainant within 30 days, and to refund the amount.

The court also ordered litigation cost of Rs 3,000 to be paid to the complainant within 30 days failing which, the amount should be refunded along with interest at 6% per annum from the date of the order till realisation.
