Rajajinagar MLA and senior BJP leader S Suresh Kumar has urged the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) to grant more time to allotees to make payments for the sites at the Nada Prabhu Kempegowda Layout.

In a letter to the BDA, a copy of which is with DH, Kumar said that the site allottees have been given only 60 days to pay the pending amount for their sites and already 25 days have gone by. The BDA should give the allottees at least four months to pay the remaining amount. The allottees have paid 12.5% of the total site cost as initial deposit a year ago. Now, the BDA has set a deadline to pay the remaining amount. The cost of the sites fixed by the BDA is higher than the market price. The BDA should provide these sites at subsidised rates, he stated.

Kumar said that the allottees should be given absolute sale deeds as the sites are not being given at subsidised rates as was done in layouts developed by the BDA earlier. The BDA should hand over litigation-free sites to the allottees. The agency should also ensure that all basic infrastructure facilities are provided at the layout before handing over the sites to the allottees.

Kumar, a former Urban Development minister, asserted that the BDA should follow the rules framed under the Real Estate Act, 2016. The BDA should be treated as a developer and a promoter instead of a government organisation, he added.

BDA commissioner Rajkumar Khatri told DH that he had received the letter and directed the BDA legal team to see if the deadline to make the payments can be extended. He said a meeting would be held with the BDA chairman and other officials to discuss the issues related to infrastructure facilities and, to communicate to the BBMP to shift its solid waste management processing unit from Magadi Road to some other location.
