Three police constables were injured while arresting two persons who were escaping in a stolen car.

When the police attempted to stop the car attached to Uber, the driver tried to run over them near Nagawara on the Outer Ring Road on the night of January 6. However, the police managed to arrest Shahnawaz and Abbas Ali, both residents of DJ Halli and recovered the car.

In the early hours of January 5, Uber driver Shivanna stopped his car near Manyata Tech Park to have tea. He had left the key in the car. Shahnawaz and Ali, who too had come there for tea, noticed the key in the car. They did not find anyone inside the vehicle and drove away in the car. A senior police officer said Shivanna, who noticed the two driving away in his car, shouted for help. Later, he approached the KG Halli police and lodged a plaint. The police started tracking the car, as it was fitted with GPS and was attached to Uber. The duo went to Mulbagal, Kolar and surrounding areas.

“The same night, they were found coming towards Nagawara. The police set up a barricade and tried to stop the vehicle. Shahnawaz, who was driving the car, tried to run over three constables Sanaullah, Kariyappa and Chand Pasha, who sustained minor injures. The car came to a halt after hitting a parked car and the barricade,” the officer added.
