The Vyalikaval police on Tuesday night arrested a 20-year-old youth for misbehaving with a minor girl and a woman.

The arrested is Manikanta, a labourer and a resident of a Muneshwara Block in Seshadripuram. He is a PUC dropout and was an accused in an attempt to murder case in 2013. He had spent a couple of months in jail before released on bail, the police said.

Around 1.30 pm on Tuesday, Manikanta, who was in an inebriated state, was going on his bike near Vyalikaval main road. He found a 22-year-old woman walking by and whistled at her. He asked her to give him a kiss and a hug. As the victim raised an alarm, Manikanta sped away, the police added.

Around 4 pm, Manikanta accosted a schoolgirl, who was returning home. While she was walking near 13th cross at Vyalikaval, Manikanta followed her and asked her to kiss and hug him. The girl informed a woman, who caught hold of Manikanta and thrashed him. While she tried calling the police control room, Manikanta managed to escape.

A senior police officer said, “After both the complaints were registered, the police started tracing Manikanta. The locals gave his description and later in the night the bike registration number was traced and Manikanta was arrested. He is a drug addict and an alcoholic. It is being verified if he was involved in similar incidents earlier.”
