At least 15 women took ill after they were administered wrong injection at Kamalapur Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Hosapete taluk on Wednesday.
The women, from places in and around Kamalapur, were admitted to the PHC to undergo a sterilisation procedure that was scheduled for Wednesday. Even before Dr Prakash Reddy, who was supposed to conduct the procedure, arrived, the PHC staff went ahead and administered wrong injections to the women.
Soon, the women started to vomit and fell unconscious. They were given first aid, and two of them, said to be serious, were shifted to the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Ballari. The remaining women were shifted to the government hospital in Hosapete.
Tense situation prevailed for a while as the relatives of women expressed their anguish against the doctors and the staff at the health centre. Police intervened and brought the situation under control. Taluk Health Officer Dr Nagendra Kumar said that the women were under observation and were doing fine.
