A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable Balbir Singh on Thursday gunned down his four colleagues at Nabinagar in Bihar’s Aurangabad district.

The suspect, who was later arrested, was said to be depressed over not being granted leave. Police sources said Balbir fired 32 rounds from his Insas rifle. As a consequence, two of his colleagues died on the spot, while the other two succumbed to their injuries while being rushed to the hospital.

“Balbir, who hails from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. Those killed have been identified as Amarnath Mishra of Muzaffarpur, Bachcha Sharma of Patna, Arvind Kumar of Muzaffarnagar and Gaurishankar Ram of Garhwa (Jharkhand),” said Aurangabad SP Satyaprakash.

The CISF headquarters in Delhi issued a statement saying any issue related to service leave had nothing to do with the jawan taking the extreme step, adding he had availed this facility “well above” the limit.

“He had just returned from leave eight days ago on January 4 and had not asked for leave again. There was no issue at all regarding his leave,” CISF spokesperson Deputy Commandant Manjit Singh said.
