Speaking after inaugurating the bio-metric wage payment system under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) at Yaliwal village in Kundagol taluk on Saturday, he stated that a sum of Rs 10 lakh each would be provided to all Assembly constituencies in rural areas to redress drinking water scarcity
The task force committees headed by local legislators should take steps to utilise the amount to mitigate drinking water shortage, he said.

“In a meeting held in Bangalore recently, Chief Executive Officers of all Zilla Panchayats were instructed to take up the works to redress drinking water scarcity on a war footing. The Chief Minister has been requested to sanction more funds for areas which would face severe drinking water scarcity in coming days,” he added.

Later, Shettar told media persons that the government was ready to extend co-operation for conducting Gram Panchayat elections as soon as the State Election Commission decided the dates of elections.
