Emmanuel, Praveen score in 2-0 victory

Dominant SUFC down DYES
Students Union FC (SUFC) produced a dominant performance to outclass DYES 2-0 in their opening encounter of the BDFA Super Division league here at the Banglore Football Stadium on Monday. A superbly taken freekick from forward Emmanuel put SUFC ahead before striker Praveen KT doubled their advantage with a simple tap-in a minute from the half-time.

SUFC were in command right from the start and took the lead in the sixth minute. DYES’ defender Balagangadhar tripped the onrushing SUFC midfielder Nanda just outside box, resulting in a freekick. Emmanuel stepped up and unleashed an unstoppable shot that deflected off the bar and found the back of the net. Emmanuel again found himself in the thick of things. In the 37th minute, he wriggled free of opposition players on the left flank and slipped the ball to midfielder Kiran, who blasted wide off the target.

The constant pressing and possession soon yielded results as SUFC increased their lead in added time (45+2 minutes). Emmanuel’s low cross after a fantastic run down the right flank found Praveen, who maintained his composure to beat DYES goalkeeper Sunil Kumar and slot the ball home a few yards from the post. In the 53rd minute, Praveen found himself clear after receving a superb through pass from winger Sudhir. With only the goalkeeper to beat, he tried to lob the ball which beat the ’keeper but hit the bar, thus denying him the second goal of the match.

SUFC remained in control for rest of the half to win the game 2-0. Earlier in the ‘A’ Division tie, Parikrma edged Income Tax (I-T) 2-1. Thangmong (23rd minute) and Chiranjeevi (29th minute) netted for the winners while Karthigeyan (58th minute) scored for I-T.
