At least four people, including two women, were injured when a helium cylinder exploded at Hosanagar in Vasanthnagar, central Bengaluru, on Friday night, police said.

A man named Mukesh was carrying the cylinder on his TVS XL Super (KA 02/JK 0985) when it exploded near 8th Main, Vasanthnagar, at 9.10 pm. He sustained serious burn injuries. The explosion also left at least three others injured — Yuvaraj, who works at Bangalore Medicals, a drug store, Lakshmi Devi, said to be a customer,  and Ammu, a passerby. Ammu and Yuvaraj are being treated in the casualty ward of Mahaveer Jain Hospital, while Lakshmi has been admitted to Narayana Nethralaya hospital for treatment of eye injuries.

Mukesh’s condition is said to be serious as he suffered burns and has been admitted to Victoria Hospital.

Javed, an eyewitness, told DH, “We heard the explosion and rushed there. Two people at Bangalore Medicals and a girl on the road were injured and crying for help.” He suspected that some roadside vendors were also injured.

Windowpanes and household articles at nearby homes and shops were also damaged in the explosion. Police have seized the moped and the cylinder.
