State government has failed to manage drought situation: BJP

Last Updated 29 January 2017, 18:10 IST
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar said the state government has failed to managed the drought situation. Speaking to reporters during his arrival to Madikeri to take part in a private programme on Sunday, he said the state government has officially declared 139 taluks as drought-hit. But, 25 more taluks are drought-hit and the state is being ravaged by severe drought. Instead of carrying out relief measures, the state government has been criticising the Modi government.

The administrative mechanism has seen an utter breakdown. No development programmes are happening and the state government has become anti-farmer, he said. Small industries minister Ramesh Jarakiholi himself has agreed that he is in possession of Rs 162 crores of undeclared income. He does not have any moral right to continue as the minister, Shettar said, urging him to step down soon. The minister had also said that no minister will be spared if the IT officials conduct a raid on the cabinet of ministers. This shows that all ministers have gathered assets through illegal means. Jarakiholi has submitted false information to the Election Commission and Lokayukta, he said.

Shettar further said veteran leader S M Krishna’s resignation from Congress party has shown that the end of the party has begun. The Congress is on the verge of extinction in the country. The state will soon be Congress-free, he added. Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation D V Sadananda Giwda said that S M Krishna’s resignation was a shocking incident as he was a clean politician.

Kambala
Speaking about Kambala, Gowda said that no violence is involved in the sport. “When I was the chief minister, I had sanctioned Rs 20 lakh to encourage the local sport. The government’s move towards bringing an amendment to the Prevention of Cruelty against Animals Act is welcome. A prelude was drawn towards the same during my chief ministerial tenure,” Gowda said.
