JD(S) won't go for pact in Assembly polls: HDK

Last Updated 30 January 2017, 18:43 IST

The JD(S) will not ally with any party in the 2018 Assembly elections. In case of a hung mandate, the party will seek re-election, JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy said on Monday.

Speaking to journalists here, he said the JD(S) would maintain “equal distance” from the BJP and the Congress. “The question of alliance doesn’t arise at all. If the situation demands, we will go for re-election rather than join hands with any national party,” he said.

When asked if former chief minister S M Krishna’s decision to quit the Congress would help the JD(S), Kumaraswamy said, “Our party is strong in the Old Mysuru region. So, there is no question of loss or gain. One has to wait and watch whether it (Krishna’s quitting the Congress) would pave way for major political developments in the state. Krishna is a veteran politician. We can’t discuss his future plans.”
