Bhansali Productions has clarified in a letter to Rajput groups that “there is no romantic dream sequence or any romantic scene between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji” in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film ‘Padmavati’. However, the Karni Sena — which has been protesting ‘distortion of historical facts’ — made a fresh demand that the production house change the name of the film.

While addressing a joint press conference on Monday, the Karni Sena and Bhansali production clarified that the two parties have reached an agreement . The Karni Sena has demanded that a screening committee headed by a retired judge and historians be set up to decide on the release the movie. In the letter, the production group has mentioned that they are willing to screen whatever they have shot so far. “We have been carefully researching and making the film. We are confident that Mewar will be proud of the film made on their revered queen. We do not want to hurt any sentiments and would appreciate if all social organisations and local people support us,” the letter states.

Karni Sena leader Mahipal Singh Makrana demanded that the production house change the name of the movie. “History should not be distorted. We were the last ones to react on Friday. It was the security personnel who fired at us when we arrived on the sets of ‘Padmavati’. Also, we demand that the title ‘Padmavati’ be changed,” Makrana said. Reacting to the demands, Shobha Sant, CEO of Bhansali Productions, said, “It is a new demand from the Karni Sena and would be taken up after thorough discussion.”
