'Rahul's mentally tough'

India skipper Virat Kohli, in the high of completing a hat-trick of series wins against England, picked out young K L Rahul for special praise.

The 24-year-old Rahul, despite being troubled by injuries since his Test debut against Australia in 2014, has gone on to establish himself as the preferred opener across all formats. In 12 Test matches, he’s already hit four centuries while in six ODIs he averages 55.00. His unbeaten 110 in a T20I game against West Indies made him only the second Indian cricketer to smack a ton in all three formats.

“He is someone who has a great character. He is mentally tough. He is hardworking and takes a lot of pride in his cricket. That is evident. He is confident and humble -- a rare combination. He knows what he exactly wants to do, so that's a great thing,” said Kohli of Rahul, with whom he also shares the dressing room at the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kohli even went on to say he wished he was as smart as Rahul. “I wish I was as smart as him when I was 24. He knows what he needs to do when put under pressure and backs his game. It is important to back guys like that and identify guys like that. In the last 11 months or so since the IPL season, it is great to see the way he has matured. I hope he can keep doing the good work for the Indian team.”
