Ioannis Mandafounis and Aoife McAtamney of ‘One One One by Cie Ioannis Mandafounis’ from Switzerland performed as part of the Attakkalari India Biennial 2017 on Sunday at the Rangoli Metro Arts Center.

The duo effortlessly engaged and stunned the audience with their intense performance. There were two empty chairs placed in the room where interested people could come and experience the live act. In the beginning of the performance, Ioannis and Aoife briefed the visitor to keep an eye contact with the artistes throughout the performance. The visitor was  also given the choice to leave the chair whenever he or she chose to.

Starting the performance with extremely slow moves and gradually making it faster and more interactive, they created a unique contact with the guests. Needless to say, the visitor is left mesmerised by the rhythmic sways and lifts.  The audience present at the art center were glued to the hypnotic moves of the artistes as they played along the entire room, free and smooth as birds. Sensorially stimulating as they were, the dancers did a few amazing lifts and were in sync with each other all throughout the performance.

With an aim to discover and dwell on relationships with the public, the performers were successful in creating magic among the audience. The connect with the audience created a different buzz and many could feel the magical effect even after the performance.

Visitors were seen either giving a hug or a handshake and thanking the duo. Some others became extremely emotional after the act. This was a different experience and a unique one for all those who were present there.

It was amazing to see how the performers could touch the hearts of visitors without any physical contact and most importantly without any music. All one could hear were thumping sounds of their hands and feet on the floor and walls.
