Many hearts won on Valentine's Day

This year Valentine’s day had different connotations for people in the city. While a section of youngsters chose to celebrate it in conventional fashion by heading out to nearby places, many young couples made a beeline to the city from neighbouring towns and cities.

Members of a few organisations however, chose to observe martyr day of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and some others honoured senior citizens in old age homes by performing ‘pada puja’ for them.

Like always, Ranganathittu, Srirangapatna, Balamuri, KRS dam, Bridavan Gardens, Nanjangud, KRS dam backwaters and Talakad were hotspots. Since Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens and Karanji Lake were closed for a weekly holiday, many returned disappointed while others thronged Mysuru Palace and Chamundi Hills.

Some of them met at malls and parks and some went to the movies. Most colleges recorded a thin attendance.

Most youngsters exchanged gifts ranging from jewellery, watches, dress to mobile phones. The once popular greeting cards however, seem to have lost out to social networking site such as Facebook and WhatsApp. Archie’s, which once popularised Valentine’s Day by selling greeting cards and gifts too has slowly wound up most of its outlets.
