Every auction throws up a surprise Indian pick or two. From near obscurity that player assumes overnight fame with a large financial windfall. From KC Kariappa to Pawan Negi and from Nathu Singh to Murugan Ashwin have attracted crores of rupees from franchises. Here is a look at some of the Indian players who have the potential to hit the jackpot in Monday’s auction.

Ishank Jaggi

: Having been left out of the auction pool, Jaggi forced his way into the list following his blistering batting in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament for the eventual winners East Zone. That he has been included on the insistence of franchises already makes this Jharkhand batsman a winner.

T20 performance: Matches: 52; Runs: 1289; Average: 32.22; Strike Rate: 117.60; Highest: 108 n.o.

K Gowtham: After an impressive outing with the ball in Ranji Trophy, Gowtham showed his big-hitting abilities in Karnataka’s triumphant campaign in the South Zone leg of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Picked for India A’s practice game against the visiting Australians, the off-spinning all-rounder struck a 68-ball 74 on Sunday to send a timely reminder to the franchises.

n Basil Thampi: The strapping Kerala medium pacer grabbed eyeballs with his speed and his ability to harry the batsmen in the South Zone Mushtaq Ali tournament. He was also picked in the South Zone squad based on his impressive performance in the T20s.
T20 performance: M: 23; W: 26; Ave: 22.19; E: 7.09.

n  Mohammad Siraj: The fast bowler played a big role as Hyderabad reached the Ranji knockouts for the first time since 2011-12. His nine-wicket haul in the quarterfinals almost knocked Mumbai out. With a strong action and a deceptive bouncer, the 22-year-old bagged nine wickets in the South Zone T20s with an economy rate of 6.57.
