Over one crore children have been vaccinated in Karnataka under the Measles and Rubella eradication initiative, according to figures provided by the Health and Family Welfare department.

With a total target of 1.65 crore children to be vaccinated over a 21-day period, the state has vaccinated 1,04,78,619 children after 10 days of vaccination drive covering 63.14% of the total target.

Children above nine months and below 15 years are being covered in the state-wide campaign starting February 7. The campaign will end on February 28. On February 17, Karnataka also received special appreciation from the India Expert Advisory Group on Measles and Rubella Immunisation for running the campaign successfully.

The Union government has written to the commissioners of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi asking them to participate in the campaign. This comes a few days after these schools refused to permit vaccination following their concerns over safety. The highest cumulative coverage in percentage to date are Udupi (77.7), Hassan (76.52) and Bengaluru Rural (75.68). The areas that have reported the least coverage are BBMP 43.23%, Kalaburagi 51.66%  and Yadgir 52.03%.
