Two collection agents of a telecom service provider were waylaid, attacked and robbed of Rs 16 lakh by two unidentified men on the doorstep of a private bank in Indiranagar, east Bengaluru, on Monday afternoon.

Sufiyan (30) and Abrar (23) reached the premises of Lakshmi Vilas Bank, Indiranagar, around 3.45 pm, parked their motorcycle and were about to enter the bank when two unidentified men waylaid them. Even before Sufiyan and Abrar could comprehend the situation, they were attacked. While Sufiyan was stabbed, Abrar was beaten up.

The attackers then snatched the cash bag containing Rs 16 lakh and sped off. Onlookers called the police and took Sufiyan and Abrar to a private hospital. Surprisingly, neither robber wore any mask or helmet, police quoted eyewitnesses as saying.

Sufiyan and Abrar work for Magic Distributors, a small-time company which collects payments from recharge outlets in Bengaluru on behalf of Airtel. They had collected the payments over the past four days and had reached Indiranagar from Horamavu to deposit the money in the bank on the instruction of their boss, Venkatesh Murthy.

A senior police officer said it was too early to say anything about the robbers. “We will check the call detail records of Sufiyan, Abrar and some other people to track down the culprits,” he added. A case of robbery has been registered at the Indiranagar police station.
