Last Updated 03 March 2017, 17:12 IST

The state government is committed to develop Chamarajanagar as a model district, said district in-charge minister U T Khader.

Speaking to media here on Friday Khader said that priority would be given to educational progress and maintenence of peace and harmony.

The minister said, the limping underground drainage works in the city has been brought to his notice. “Necessary information will be sought in the progress review meeting and the company, which has taken up the contract, will be directed to complete the works soon,” he said.

Khader promised that the multi-village drinking water project would be completed soon. He appealed to all the parties not to politicise development works and sought their cooperation in making the district a better place to live.

After the budget presentation, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will launch works on supplying water from the rivers to the lakes in Yalandur and Chamarajanagar taluks. The technical problems in the widening of B Rachaiah Double Road and NH-209 will be addressed.

The officials should work in tandem with elected representatives for the overall development of the district, he suggested.

Ration cards

Khader, who is also the Food and Civil Supplies Minister said, the process of getting APL and BPL ration cards had been made simpler. “Earlier, getting a ration card was a difficult process. Now, an Aadhaar number is sufficient to get an APL card. It is learnt that few have been including the names of others in the ration cards. The applications submitted online would be verified and the cards will be sent through registered post,” he added.

BPL card holders too can apply online. Their details would be verified by village accountants and panchayat development officers in rural areas. The VA would be paid Rs 20 for every application. In cities and towns, food inspectors would scrutinise the applications, he added.
