JOIN US In the Indian batting line-up that is yet to fire in unison in the ongoing four-Test series against the Australians, opener KL Rahul has stood out with his solid technique and temperament.
The right-hander has slammed three half centuries in the series so far and the composure with which all three knocks were essayed has drawn appreciation from many, including skipper Virat Kohli.
“I think the last three innings have been his best three innings so far. I told him that you will cherish the ones that you don't get hundreds in because they are so valuable for the team and you will understand the importance later,” said Kohli at the post-match press conference here on Tuesday.
Rahul followed up his 64 in the first innings of the opening Test in Pune with vital contributions of 90 and 51 in testing conditions here. “I think he is in a very good zone and he has stuck in really well. He has shown great character. Hats off to the way he has played. Being a young guy in a big series, with the team up against the wall, he has shown great character three times out of four. That is outstanding,” Kohli said.
“He wants to convert his starts into big hundreds and he has done that in the past. In some cases, the momentum has not gone our way and he has not been able to score a big one. I'm sure in the coming games he would like to push his score forward and put the team into a position from where they can consolidate.” Kohli added.
Meanwhile, Rahul, speaking at the post-match presentation, said he was keen to do well in Bengalure. “There is no better place for to perform like I did. After that first loss, to come here and do what we did is really really special. We have achieved a lot but this win for a young team will be really really special. I have played all my cricket here. I told them if we get 150 lead we will win by 30.”
