Enquiry against cop for refusing to register molestation case

A departmental enquiry has been initiated against an investigating officer in a mobile phone theft case at the HAL police station after the owner of the mobile, a woman, alleged that the officer persuaded her not to register a molestation complaint.

On March 5, 2017, Sunday, the owner of a paying guest accommodation where the woman stayed, had registered a theft complaint after an unidentified man entered the PG building through the terrace, wielding a knife and robbed the woman of her cell phone.

It was learnt that the woman escaped from the culprit by locking herself in her bathroom. The incident happened at around 2 am on Sunday at AECS Layout under HAL police station limits. After the PG hostel owner lodged a complaint, the city police identified the culprit as Shivarama Reddy, a habitual offender, through CCTV footage. The police, on Tuesday, shot him in his leg when he attacked the policemen.

Meanwhile, when the woman approached the HAL police inspector once again to lodge a molestation complaint against the suspect, the inspector discouraged her from registering a complaint. “We have received a complaint against an investigation officer and we have ordered a departmental enquiry,” said Hemant Nimbalkar, Additional Commissioner (East).
