No Holi outside hostels, DU tells women students

Last Updated 12 March 2017, 19:25 IST

International Student House for Women (ISHW) and Meghdoot Hostel of the Delhi University have barred women students from stepping out of the hostel premises on Holi, drawing flak from the students.

The authorities maintained that the restriction has been imposed to ensure the safety of the girl students staying in the hostels.

However, women students of the varsity condemned the ban and termed it as ‘arbitrary and illegal confinement’.

“Residents and their female guests will not be allowed to leave or enter the ISHW premises from 9 pm of March 12 till 6 pm of March 13. No male visitors will be allowed to enter the hostel complex on March 13,” resident tutor of the women’s hostel Kumari Khusbhoo stated in a notice to the inmates.

Residents desiring to play Holi may celebrate the festival outside the ISHW residential block but within the hostel premises, she said.
