After days of speculation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Saturday confirmed that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli will be ruled out for at least a
fortnight.

“The Indian captain will undergo rehabilitation after sustaining an injury to his right shoulder. His recovery will be assessed in the second week of April to determine an exact return date to play in IPL 2017,” the BCCI stated.

Kohli, who will join the RCB set-up on Sunday and will undergo rehabilitation in the city, looks set to miss at least five games, including three home games. RCB play their sixth game on April 18 against Gujarat Lions, and one hopes the skipper is cleared to play by then.

RCB, whose build-up has been rocked by injuries to Kohli and K L Rahul (the India opener will miss IPL-10 completely), received a shot in the arm after a team spokesman said that their South African mainstay A B de Villiers will join the team on Sunday.

De Villiers pulled out of the final of the Momentum One Day Cup – South Africa’s domestic 50-overs meet – on Friday due to back pain and speculation grew that he could miss the early part of IPL. His arrival should calm RCB’s nerves a bit now.
