Gleneagles Global Hospitals opens 4th facility in K'taka

Gleneagles Global Hospitals said that it would look at expanding its short stay facilities, like the one that was inaugurated on Richmond Road in the city on Friday.

The new 40-bed facility is the hospital’s fourth one in Karnataka. “This particular hospital is for short stay, and focuses on diagnosing efficiently, treating and discharging patients quickly,” said Gleneagles Global Hospitals Chairman and Founder Dr K Ravindranath, adding that if anything is serious, patients will be referred to the bigger facility. Started in 1999 as a 50-bed venture, it has now spread across Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

In Karnataka alone, the hospital has over 640 beds, with the largest facility (500 beds) — BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals in Kengeri.

In 2015, IHH Healthcare bought a 73.4% stake in Global Hospitals. Gleneagles Global is now a part of Parkway Pantai, a fully owned subsidiary of IHH Healthcare.

Dr Ravindranath said that healthcare is capital-intensive, and with this partnership, we develop synergy and we can expand our hospital network. The hospital is looking at developing one large facility and then several small hospitals catering to the neighbourhood.

When asked about investments into the new facility, Parkway Pantai CEO (India Operations Division) Ramesh Krishnan said, “We have invested close to Rs 15 crore in it, but even before our investments, the work was in progress.” Earlier, IHH infused close to Rs 270 crore for hospital’s capex requirement, and in calendar year 2016, it infused Rs 100 crore capex.

“The amount was used in the expansion of the capacity and refurbishment of facilities. We are also looking at expanding in the NCR region,” said Krishnan.
