A wedding was  called off abruptly after heated arguments between the family members of the bride and the groom at Saudamini Kalyan Mantap at Konanakunte, off Kanakapura Road, on Sunday.

The groom from Subramanyapura was to marry the bride from Kanakapura. The groom’s family had an argument with bride’s relatives as the food got exhausted around 10 pm during the reception on Saturday.  The groom was hurt by the arguments. He tore apart garland and his dress and threw them on the road. The elders from both the families intervened, but in vain.

“We rushed to the spot after being informed. We tried to convince both the parties to go ahead with the wedding, but nobody had the patience to listen,” said a police officer.

The police spoke to family members of the bride and the groom separately. The groom’s parents told the police that the bride’s family members were against the marriage. Hence, they deliberately picked a fight.

The bride’s parents told the police that they would not complete the wedding considering their daughter’s future. The police obtained undertakings from both the parties and sent them away. The bride told the police that the groom insulted her in front of everyone. He may not take proper care of her after the wedding. Hence, she decided not to marry him.

The groom told the police that bride and her parents wanted to him to desert his parents and live with them and he was not ready for that.
