Meet to decide on minimum fare for app-based cabs

The Transport department will hold a meeting with all stakeholders before arriving at a decision on fixing minimum fares for app-based cabs.

Officials of the department had recommended Rs 12 per km and Rs 14 per km as the minimum fares for small and sedan cars, respectively.

The meeting was suggested at a policy-making level as the officials did not want to be seen taking a decision with an unilateral approach. “We want the drivers and cab companies to agree on the fare models,” an official said.

“The meeting was supposed to take place last week. However, it was postponed due to the strike called by lorry owners’ associations,” a senior official in the department said.
