Laundry directed to pay Rs 25,000 compensation

N Nasser Kabir had given 15 expensive clothes for dry cleaning to Snoways Launderers and Dry Cleaners (division of Jyothy Fabricare Services Limited) in January 2009.
He was made to wait for days when he demanded the clothes back and finally was told that one of the garments had been damaged.

The manager of the dry cleaning firm offered the customer to pay Rs 3,000 for the damage caused. Kabir’s demand for a better deal was not honoured, and he approached the Forum. The Forum found the laundry guilty of deficient service and directed the firm to pay Rs 25,000 as compensation to the customer along with costs of Rs 500.


Durga Mohan B had bought various items including baby diapers from Trinethra Super Retail Pvt Ltd paying Rs 424 for them.

At home he discovered from the bill that the shop had charged more for the baby diapers than the maximum retail price.

The pack should have cost him Rs 18 on MRP but he was charged Rs 22. He went back to the shop to complain, only to be replied rudely.

The consumer approached the Forum which observed that many consumers have had this problem from sellers who do not stick to MRP on the packs and overcharge consumers. It ordered the shop to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation.

Vacation credit card

N Ravichander had paid Rs 26,000 as membership fee to Vacation Credit Card in Austin Town but was unhappy with the services.

Ravichander endured disappointment, poor treatment, rejected accommodation and inconvenience on several occasions.

Upon a complaint, the Forum found the company guilty of poor service and ordered payment of Rs 5,000 towards one bad trip, Rs 2,000 each for two other trips with interest and costs of Rs 1,000.
