Think of Rajasthan and the first thing that comes to mind are the exquisite palaces, the rich and colourful costumes and lavish food. Plating this experience for the foodies in Bengaluru is the casual dining restaurant ‘Kesariya’. Situated in JP Nagar, this place takes one on a tour of the magnificent life of royalty.

As you take your seat, a staff comes with a brass jug  of lukewarm and fragrant water for you to wash your hands with. Thus begins the royal gastronomic experience.

As you wait for your food, don’t miss out on the elaborate ambience that will instantly remind you of an old ‘haweli’, and the Rajasthani music that plays in the background truly compliments the atmosphere.

The ambience is a replica of a palace with wall paintings and detailing which depict an old culture.

The restaurant has about 15 different menus and is changed on a daily basis. So what you had today, might not be available tomorrow, but fret not, as the chef makes sure one has the most authentic experience of the aristocracy.

Begin your meal with the ‘daal bati churma’ which is served with generously poured ghee. Along with it sample the ‘tawa takatak’ which is an array of sweets like ‘ghevar’, ‘gulab jamun’ and ‘coconut barfi’ among others served with grated dry fruits.

You will also be provided ‘aam ka lassi’and ‘khatte keri ka sharbat’. They act as excellent summer coolers.

For starters, try out their ‘papad ki churi chaat’. The sweet and sour taste of the dish will make you go for the next bite. You can also have the ‘kale channe ki tikki’, ‘ker sangri ke samose’ and ‘hariyali paneer pakoda’ along with the ‘chaat’ to tickle your palate. If you try them with the garlic chutney and chilli pickle, you can’t help but go for the second bite.

The cuisine is an elaborate one, so be careful not to fill yourself up. As you almost finish your starters, get ready for the sumptuous ‘thali’ which will have four kinds of ‘sabjis’, four types of curries, two sweet dishes followed by ‘phulkas’, ‘masala puri’, ‘bajri ki roti’, ‘masale ki roti’ with ghee and white butter.

Sounds filling? Not yet! the menu also has a section of three rice items to complete the ‘thali’. As every meal ends with a sweet touch, ‘mango kesariya kulfi’ is the best way to end the royal sojourn.

The menu is designed in a way that no one will leave the place with a disappointed palate.

Kesariya is located at 55, Goenka Chambers, Jeevan Griha Colony, 19th Main, Phase 2, JP Nagar. For details, call 26590800.
