Sassy in summer

what's trending

Summer is here and that means long days of sunshine and heat. Humid weather takes a toll on all of us and also limits our choices when it comes to fashion. For a college girl especially, the hot summers are one of the biggest woes while stepping out. Who wants to sweat it out in their favourite clothes, right? But the summer season can be an easy-breezy ride if you know what to wear.

Get set for a hot and bright summer this year with some amazing wardrobe outfits that are comfortably effortless and scale to the top of the fashion ladder this spring summer. Here are some trends that are summer-proofed for sure:

Comfort is key

Corsets have made it big in the fashion industry with their bodycon silhouette and sassy personality. Step out of the body-con dresses into something more comfortable in this hot weather, something that can be worn in a lot of different ways and a lot of different styles, a definite style trick for college when low on budget. The silhouette adds a fun element to whatever you decide to match it with, be it palazzos, midi skirts or those ‘plain jane jeans’. It is a wardrobe favourite for a casual albeit fashionably fun night out with friends.

This summer, a lot of attention is being given to the type of material in the fashion scenario as well. Natural fibres are being opted more than synthetic ones. Khadi is one such element that has come into the limelight as a blockbuster amidst the fashion icons and bloggerati. A great investment for this summer, khadi is durable, very in, and definitely gives a breather in the summer heat.

Gingham is a must-have this season, as it will make one hell of a style statement. It can be styled in a variety of ways. A preppy button-down gingham shirt can be either tied around the waist with some rugged jeans and a tank, or can be put over a dress to add a little edge to the outfit, and can also be worn as it is. Gingham has come back in a big way and will be a big running trend this season with the print emerging on pants, shirts and dresses alike.

For a day look, a perfect everyday outfit would be something in nice, flowy silhouettes which are light and breezy, and will look good with almost anything from jeans to shorts to skirts or culottes. The flowy silhouette that is dominating this season is light, fun, easily customised and repeatable. Go for a fun beachy wrap-around for a ‘summer by the sea kind’ of look, or go in for cool and classy capes that look elegant. Or even go for the beautifully-draped capes, not only a must-have for a college-style statement, but also a great investment for impromptu plans! A little peek-a-boo and class is all you want this summer in your wardrobe.

The fashionably acceptable alternative for wearing jeans this summer is definitely not with your boring ‘T-shirt and jeans look’. Trade that for the phenomenal denim on denim trend to be one of the cool kids on the block. It could be jeans with a denim jacket and a tank or denim overalls or denim skirts and denim jackets, the possibilities are endless and a step towards effortless fashion.

Rock that denim look throughout the season, which is without a hitch the smoothest fashion statement ever since the 80s.

Summer is the season for boho lovers to channelise their inner boho personalities supported on soft frames of flowy silhouettes. Make your body breathe in flowy materials like vibrant, printed palazzos, skirts and trousers. The flowy lowers are a definite summer essential that will make you heat-resistant for the most part and will emanate that easy-going boho vibe. These can be your party favourites or your cocktail night outfit, wherever you decide to wear them, they will not let you down.

Bag it!

An essential for any college-going girl is the right bag, a tote to be more specific. A girl needs her things around her all the time, from pocket perfumes, facial mists, headphones and of course, stationery. A great way to go would be to get the trendy alternative of a hold-all, which could be a simple tote. Opt for muted colours so as to match it with a wider variety of co-ordinating colours in your outfit; earthier tones are much preferred. Earthy tones look less dirty, no matter how weathered, as compared to other pop colours. They will also go with almost all the colours in your wardrobe.

A case of bling

Chunky jewellery in the summertime is an invitation to sweaty itches and uncomfortable vibes. When out in the sun, the only way to bring your A-game is to be your cool and confident self in all the ways that count. Opt for minimal but unique pieces of jewellery this summer, that give you the fashionably bold outcome you want without becoming too distracting. This year round, the jewellery scenario sees change from statement neckpieces to bold earrings and multiple rings and minimal neckchains.

So, stack up your fingers with some cool rings, which can be either worn all together with a quirky and edgy outfit and singles for a classier counterpart. A cuter and easier alternative to accessorise your neck would be to go for delicate neckchains, and flirty earrings with popping colours that catch attention and will give character to the whole outfit.
