Last Updated 01 May 2017, 20:20 IST

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi University (DU), Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) and the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi will soon dedicate a wall on their campuses to showcase portraits and stories of war heroes decorated with the Param Vir Chakra.

A large number of other universities and higher educational institutions, including those run by the central government, will also follow suit.

On Tuesday, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar will launch a nationwide campaign titled the ‘Vidya, Veerta Abhiyan’. Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre will share the dais with Javadekar.

“The move aims to instill patriotism in students,” official sources said.

Javadekar will present the first set of portraits, of 21 war heroes decorated with the Param Vir Chakra, to the vice chancellors of JNU, DU and JMI during the launch.

Under the campaign, every higher educational institution will be encouraged to create a ‘Wall of Heroes’ on its campus.
