Trouble seem to be compounding for AIADMK (Amma) leader  TTV Dhinakaran with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) registering a money laundering case against him in connection with the Election Commission (EC) bribery case.

Taking cognizance of the Delhi Police FIR in the case, the ED registered the case against him and others under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ED officials would investigate about the proceeds of the crime and issue summons to the accused soon, sources said.

Dhinakaran and three others were arrested by Delhi Police in the past fortnight and charged with conspiring to bribe EC officials to ensure that his faction get the symbol 'Two Leaves' of the undivided AIADMK.

The case came to light after Delhi Police arrested Sukesh Chandrasekhar (27) from a five-star hotel here allegedly with Rs 1.3 crore on April 16. The police registered a case against him and Dhinakaran among others for conspiring to fix a deal of Rs 50 crore for the symbol.

Dhinakaran and his aide were arrested on April 25 after four days of questioning while one Nathu Singh, who allegedly helped the AIADMK (Amma) leader transfer money from Chennai to Delhi through illegal means.

A Delhi court had on Monday sent Dhinakaran and his aide to judicial custody till May 15 in the Election Commission bribery case. Police had taken him to Chennai soon after his arrest for collecting evidence and searched his and other aides premises.

The bribery case and the cancellation of the RK Nagar bypolls, where he was the candidate, had put him and his aunt V K Sasikala, the party General Secretary who is in jail in a disproportionate assets case, in a corner with other party leaders initiating merger talks with AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) faction led by O Paneerselvam.
