Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday directed the police not to involve themselves in land dispute cases and mediate between two parties to settle such disputes. “The government is receiving complaints regularly about the intervention of policemen in settling land disputes. The intervention of the policemen has adversely affected the reputation of the department,” he said after inaugurating the new buildings of Whitefield police station and Whitefield DCP’s office.

Interestingly, the new DCP building is built with the donations made by Irafan Razaq of Prestige Developers, a realty firm. Razaq had donated Rs 3 crore to build the office.“Crime-free society can’t exist, but crime rate can be brought down with the effective use of technology. Public participation is very important to ensure safe environs for women,” he said.

“It’s not the beauty of the police station that matters, but the effective functioning. Whitefield is the city’s IT corridor where people work during night. Hence, the local police should be more active even during nights,” he said.

Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation D V Sadananda Gowda said people expect transparency in the police

department, but there is hardly any transparency. The police, elected representatives and the government should be blamed for lack of transparency in the department.

Mahadevapura MLA Aravind Limbavali said Whitefield area needs a flyover for decongestion. About 15 lakh people visit the area for various purposes every day.  “Basic amenities can be provided even if the government spends just 20 % of the tax collected from the area,” he said.

Siddaramaiah released a mobile app ‘Know Your Police Station’ developed by the Benglauru City police.
