Construction waste found dumped in Mylasandra lake

Last Updated 08 May 2017, 19:34 IST

Tonnes of construction waste has been dumped in Mylasandra lake with forest officials suspecting that the debris was from Namma Metro work sites.

KLCDA chief executive officer G Vidyasagar confirmed he has received a complaint in this regard. He said he will take action once he receives a report from forest officials.

He said Mylasandra lake, spread over 16.2 acres, was supposed to be one of the cleanest lakes, considering the quality of its water.

“Building materials were dumped here earlier. Last week, pieces of concrete pillar have been unloaded here. The material looks very much like the construction waste seen at Namma Metro work sites on Mysuru Road.

Prima facie, we believe the material is from a Metro work site,” said Maneesh Prasad, a student.  “The Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority (KLCDA) had warned of stringent action against those who dump garbage in lakes. I have informed the authority about the dumping of waste in Mylasandra lake, after a person alerted me,” tree committee member Vijay Nishat said.
